Are footballers breaking the rules?

Snickers and Rio Ferdinand recently came under fire in The Telegraph after breaching the Office of Fair Trading’s advice about celebrities making it clear when they promoting or endorsing a product.

Although I’m not sure how strictly this is enforced. Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen are frequently endorsing products and no one seems to batter an eye lid? I wouldn’t say they are making it clear that their tweeting is part of their sponsorship deal, which it most probably is.

My personal favourite :

Wayne Rooney ” Just got my new boots off Nike for Sunday. Can’t wait to wear them”.

Not a good day for 02

There is uproar on Twitter today as it transpires that O2 send your phone number to every site you visit using their mobile data network. Lewis Peckover made the discovery after running a simple test : http://lew.io/headers.php

Cue the backlash on Twitter:

This will be a real test of 02′s crisis management as hundreds of people look for answers from the network.

Man City Top of the social league too

Man City’s great use of social media has really caught my eye over the last 6 months or so. Not only are they top of the league on the football pitch but they are also leading the way in engaging fans using social channels.

Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Blogs, and YouTube are all being used to give fans unprecedented access to the club and its players. Fans can even have their tweets or blog posts featured on the main Man City website. This allows fans to really feel like part of the club. Well played.

A good example of this is are the two videos below:

Luluvise – No blokes allowed

Luluvise, which launched on the 15th December 2011  describes itself as  ”Sex and the City marries Facebook”. A social network exclusively for girls, boys are ‘banned’ from using the site. The whole idea is to replicate the closeness between best girlfriends online, the things they talk about etc, and all without having any guys present. They have raised  $1 million in equity financing from Passion Capital, PROfounders Capital, and angels to develop the site and are based in London.

The site uses Facebook Connect to allow users to sign up, although it doesn’t post any information to a users’ Facebook wall. The most interesting, or controversial thing, depending on how you look at it is the feature where you can rate ‘past conquests’ i.e You go on a date with a guy, and then score him against various categories in a bid to let your peers know how your dates have fared.

Imagine the uproar if there was a lads only site where girls were rated against specific criteria, there would be uproar! Mark Zuckerberg knows all about that.

I haven’t been able to get access to the site myself (being a boy), however I’ve had one of the team sign up and have a look around. She wasn’t impressed however.

Here are some screen grabs :

Rate your guys looks

Rate his bedroom skills:

Organise a group poll:

Check the wikidate archive to make sure you don’t date a guy with a poor score:

All in all, this is very The Only Way is Essex it seems, although they should be careful they don’t end up in court with a disgruntled, former squeeze who is unhappy with his score.
