Man City Top of the social league too

Man City’s great use of social media has really caught my eye over the last 6 months or so. Not only are they top of the league on the football pitch but they are also leading the way in engaging fans using social channels.

Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Blogs, and YouTube are all being used to give fans unprecedented access to the club and its players. Fans can even have their tweets or blog posts featured on the main Man City website. This allows fans to really feel like part of the club. Well played.

A good example of this is are the two videos below:

Tony Fernandes leads the way on social media

As a Chelsea fan, it pains me to write this post. Tony Fernandes, the owner of premiership football newcomers QPR (and also AirAsia) knows exactly what social media is all about. The exploits in social of Team Lotus, Fernandes’ F1 outfit are well documented, but now as chairman of QPR he is using social to get closer to his fans, something which is usually very difficult for football club owners to do.

How many billionaire football club owners would ask their fans on Twitter which footballers to buy?? Well played Tony
